The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has convened an emergency security meeting with all Area Commanders and Tactical Commanders, directing strict compliance with professional policing standards across the territory.
The meeting, held on Thursday at the FCT Police Command Headquarters in Garki II, focused on strengthening security operations, improving professionalism, and sustaining recent gains in crime reduction within the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking during the session, the police commissioner commended officers for their dedication to duty and noted that crime rates in the FCT had remained relatively low during the period under review.
He, however, urged all commanders to remain vigilant, proactive, and responsive in protecting lives and property.
Sanusi also reiterated the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, stressing zero tolerance for extortion, harassment of residents, and other forms of misconduct.
He warned that supervisory officers would be held responsible for any misconduct committed by officers under their command, directing Area Commanders to immediately pass the warning to Divisional Police Officers and rank-and-file personnel.
In a move to strengthen discipline, the commissioner ordered the Command’s X-Squad to intensify monitoring operations, warning that any erring officer would be arrested and subjected to disciplinary procedures.
He further announced the dissolution of all Tactical Teams within the command, which have now been merged into a single unit known as the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), tasked with responding to violent crimes across the FCT.
Sanusi also appealed to residents of Abuja to continue cooperating with security agencies and promptly report suspicious movements or activities.
The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of all residents across the territory.
