Residents of Kogi East Senatorial District have renewed calls on Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, to urgently intervene in the worsening condition of the Dekina-Anyigba road in Dekina Local Government Area.
The appeal was made in a public statement describing the road as one of the major challenges confronting the people of the area, with residents lamenting years of neglect and hardship.
According to the statement signed by Israel Okayi, Dekina remains the largest local government area in Kogi State and one of the most politically active regions in the state, yet continues to suffer from poor infrastructure.
He noted that the bad state of the road has made transportation difficult for motorists, commercial drivers, farmers, traders, students, and civil servants who rely on the route daily.
The residents explained that the damaged road has slowed down economic activities, increased transportation costs, and made movement of farm produce to markets more difficult, thereby affecting livelihoods across the area.
They further stated that pregnant women, sick persons, and other vulnerable residents often face serious delays in accessing healthcare facilities because of the poor road network.
The statement also observed that students traveling between communities for academic activities face unnecessary hardship, especially during the rainy season when parts of the road become nearly impassable.
Residents expressed concern that despite the strategic importance of Dekina to the economy and politics of Kogi State, the area has not received adequate attention in terms of road rehabilitation and modern infrastructure.
They urged Governor Ododo’s administration to treat the matter as a priority, stressing that timely intervention would improve commerce, ease movement, and restore hope among the people.
According to them, fixing the Dekina-Anyigba road would further strengthen public confidence in government and demonstrate commitment to balanced development across all parts of the state.
The people also called on stakeholders, community leaders, and concerned citizens to continue amplifying the appeal until the appropriate authorities respond.
They maintained that Dekina deserves better infrastructure, adding that the time for action is now.
