A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, has declared that he is not a political merchant who moves from one party to another in search of political relevance.
Abejide stated that he has remained a committed member of the ADC since 2017 and has never changed his political platform, stressing that consistency, loyalty, and discipline should be respected in Nigeriaâs democratic system.
According to him, several leaders behind the emerging political coalition lack ideological stability, alleging that many of them have moved from one political party to another over the years in pursuit of personal ambition.
He listed parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and now the ADC as platforms some coalition figures have reportedly passed through.
The lawmaker said longstanding members of the ADC are resisting attempts by such politicians to take over the party structure, describing their history as one marked by political convenience rather than genuine commitment.
Abejide also alleged that the recent activities and discussions surrounding the ADC amounted to contempt of court, insisting that due legal processes concerning the party must be respected by all parties involved.
He maintained that no political interest group should act in a manner that undermines ongoing judicial proceedings or attempts to impose decisions outside constitutional procedures.
He accused the defecting politicians of repeatedly using political parties as temporary vehicles to secure power before abandoning them when it no longer suits their interests.
Abejide maintained that the ADC was built through years of sacrifice by dedicated members who stayed with the party during difficult periods when it lacked national prominence and influence.
He noted that loyal party members would not allow newcomers with unstable political records to undermine the values and structure of the ADC.
The federal lawmaker further stated that Nigerians are becoming more aware of politicians who frequently change parties without clear principles or ideological direction.
He called on party faithful across the country to remain united and vigilant in protecting the identity of the ADC from what he described as opportunistic political actors.
Abejide reaffirmed his confidence in the partyâs future, saying the ADC has credible members capable of providing purposeful leadership without relying on recycled politicians.
His remarks come amid increasing political consultations and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as opposition figures continue efforts to build alliances and seek stronger platforms.
