Ahead of the 2027 general elections, influential community leaders and traditional Chiefs in the Area Council of Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State have endorsed Hon. Leke Abejide for a third term in the House of Representatives.
The endorsement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting convened by Chief Asaje on Saturday at Ayanmo Main Hall, Odo-Ere, Yagba West LGA. At the gathering, the chiefs unanimously adopted Abejide as their sole candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief Victor Onilede said the endorsement was a public declaration of the confidence the chiefs and people of the area had long reposed in the lawmaker.
“We are unveiling openly what we have been saying privately, that Hon. Leke Abejide deserves a third term in office. His achievements are outstanding and commendable,” he stated.
He further noted that the chiefs were ready to mobilise voters, grassroots supporters and political structures across the Area Council and beyond to ensure Abejide’s victory in the 2027 elections.
In his remarks, Chief Asaje expressed appreciation to the chiefs for their show of unity and strong support for the lawmaker’s re-election bid. He described the endorsement as a clear sign that the people value continuity and good representation.
According to him, the decision of the influential leaders does not in any way deny other aspirants their constitutional right to contest, but rather demonstrates the confidence of the people in Abejide’s leadership and performance.
He added that the chiefs’ action signposted their desire for sustained development in Yagba land through continuity of effective representation.
Observers at the meeting described the endorsement as a major grassroots boost for Abejide’s third term ambition, noting that the group had resolved to deploy its structures across the council area to secure what they called a decisive victory in 2027.
The meeting ended successfully with renewed commitment from participants to work for unity and progress in Yagba West.
