Aspirants of the All Progressives Congress from Ward A in Lokoja 1 State Constituency have rejected what they described as an alleged attempt to impose a candidate ahead of the 2027 election.
The position was made known during a press conference held on Tuesday at Lokoja Club 1901, where the aspirants and party leaders condemned a purported gathering held on Sunday in which Tijjani Shehu Bin Ebaiya was reportedly endorsed for another term ahead of the 2027 election.
The group described the move as unlawful, undemocratic and contrary to the provisions of the Electoral Act, insisting that no valid primary election, congress or consensus process had taken place.
Reading the statement on behalf of the forum, Dr Abubakar Sadiq Bala said no written consent was sought or obtained from other aspirants as required under the law, while several aspirants were allegedly not invited to the meeting.
According to the group, any endorsement carried out without the participation and consent of all cleared aspirants remains null and void.
They also raised concerns over what they described as an existing zoning and rotational arrangement within the constituency, noting that the seat had traditionally rotated among component zones and that no zone had historically occupied it for two consecutive terms.
The aspirants warned that any attempt to disrupt the arrangement could create division and threaten unity within the constituency and the party.
They called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress at all levels to disregard the outcome of the alleged meeting and ensure due process in selecting the partyâs candidate for the 2027 election.
The group also appealed to stakeholders to avoid actions capable of causing disaffection and crisis, while urging supporters to remain calm and law-abiding.
In a direct appeal to Ahmed Usman Ododo, the aspirants pleaded for intervention to preserve what they described as the existing zoning arrangement in the constituency.
They insisted that only a free, fair, transparent and credible contest would produce a candidate acceptable to party members and capable of delivering victory for the APC in 2027.
