The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has issued a stern warning to content creators against spreading unverified or misleading information capable of inciting panic, particularly on issues related to terrorism and security.
The command disclosed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with a viral video that falsely suggested an imminent terrorist threat within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), causing widespread fear among residents.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, stated that the individual behind the video has been apprehended and is currently in custody. He noted that preliminary investigations revealed the content to be false and deliberately misleading.
According to the police boss, the suspect will be prosecuted in accordance with the law, stressing that the command will not tolerate actions capable of causing public unrest or undermining security efforts.
The police further urged content creators and social media users to verify information before sharing, warning that anyone found spreading false security alerts would face legal consequences.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the FCT, advising residents to remain calm and rely only on official sources for credible information.
