A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has again taken a swipe at key opposition figures, accusing them of hypocrisy over recent comparisons between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and late military ruler Sani Abacha.
Omokri, in a statement shared on his social media platforms, criticized Peter Obi, David Mark, and Dele Momodu, alleging that they all benefited in one way or another during the Abacha era, which he described as âone of the darkest periods in Nigeriaâs history.â
He expressed outrage that individuals who, according to him, had ties to the Abacha administration were now publicly drawing parallels between Tinubuâs government and that of the late military leader.
âIt is ironic and deeply troubling that those who benefited from Abachaâs regime are now positioning themselves as moral voices against the current administration,â Omokri said.
The former aide further described Abacha as âthe biggest thief in world history,â referencing long-standing allegations of large-scale looting of public funds during his regime.
Omokri argued that such comparisons were not only misleading but also politically motivated, aimed at discrediting the Tinubu administration.
While the individuals mentioned are yet to officially respond to the remarks, political observers say the exchange highlights the growing tension and sharp rhetoric within Nigeriaâs political space ahead of future electoral contests.
The development has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians, with some supporting Omokriâs stance while others view his comments as partisan and inflammatory.
