The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has said he advised Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, not to worry about the conduct of the state election.
Wike disclosed that he contacted Governor Adeleke on Saturday while he was away to find out how the election was progressing.
According to the FCT Minister, Adeleke told him that everything was going well, prompting him to remind the governor of his earlier advice not to be apprehensive.
“I was away and I called Governor Adeleke on Saturday to ask him how the election was going, and he said everything was going well, and I reminded him that I told him not to worry,” Wike said.
He also cautioned against attributing the actions of individuals to the Federal Government, stressing that the conduct of one or two persons does not necessarily represent the position of the government.
“If one or two individuals are doing something, that does not mean the Federal Government is doing it,” he added.
The minister’s remarks come amid political reactions and allegations surrounding the conduct of the Osun election, with various parties and stakeholders expressing concerns over events before, during and after the poll.
Wike urged Nigerians to distinguish between the actions of individual actors and the official position of the Federal Government, saying individual conduct should not automatically be interpreted as government policy or action.
