The Lokoja Traditional Council has called on the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government and relevant security agencies to immediately halt a planned coronation ceremony for one Alhaji Suleiman Musa Aiga, being presented as the purported “Ohinoyi of Egbura Lokoja,” describing the move as unauthorized and contrary to established traditional procedures.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Council Secretary, Alhaji Muhammadu Maikarfi Usman, the council said it had become aware of a public notice circulating on social media announcing the coronation event scheduled to hold at Muhammadu Buhari Square on June 28, 2026.
The council emphasized that His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir, neither appointed nor approved any individual for the title of “Ohinoyi of Egbura Lokoja.”
According to the statement, the proposed coronation is inconsistent with the customs, traditions, and established regulations governing the Lokoja Traditional Council and its recognised traditional institutions.
“The Maigari of Lokoja has neither appointed nor approved the appointment of any person as Ohinoyi of Egbura Lokoja,” the council stated.
The council further expressed concern that the planned event could undermine the authority of the traditional institution in Lokoja and potentially create tension within the community.
It therefore urged the Lokoja Local Government and relevant security agencies to intervene and prevent the event in the interest of peace, law, and order.
Reaffirming its commitment to peaceful coexistence and respect for lawful traditional processes, the council expressed confidence that authorities would take appropriate steps to address the matter.
The proposed coronation, according to notices circulating online, is expected to hold on June 28 at Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja.
