The Lokoja Da’iratul Tijjaniya on Friday held the 15th edition of its annual Zikirin Kubura to commemorate the first Friday of the 1448 Hijrah Islamic calendar.
The spiritual gathering, held at the palace of the Maigari of Lokoja, brought together Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, clerics and hundreds of Muslim faithful who offered prayers for the nation and remembered departed believers.
The Maigari of Lokoja, Dr. Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV, served as the Royal Father of the Day.
Other traditional rulers in attendance included the Rogan of Eggan, Alhaji Muhammadu Umar Alhassan, the Agankyu of Kakanda Kingdom, Engr. Faruk Muhammad Kakanda, and several other royal fathers.
The Chief Imam of Lokoja, Sheikh Aminu Shaban, led the prayer session, offering special supplications for peace, unity, security and the continued progress of Lokoja, Kogi State and Nigeria.
Delivering the keynote sermon, Sheikh Yusuf Abdulkadir Zuru spoke on the significance of the Hijrah, urging Muslims to draw lessons from the migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) by strengthening their faith, remaining steadfast in righteousness, and embracing sacrifice, patience and obedience to Allah.
He said the Islamic New Year offers an opportunity for self-reflection, spiritual renewal and renewed commitment to Islamic values, while encouraging Muslims to promote peace, unity and good character in their communities.
Addressing participants, the Maigari of Lokoja called for sustained prayers for peace, unity and development in Lokoja, Kogi State and Nigeria. He urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence, love and tolerance, while stressing the importance of praying for the nation’s leaders.
The annual Zikirin Kubura featured Qur’anic recitations, Dhikr (remembrance of Allah), prayers for departed faithful and special supplications for peace, security and prosperity across the country.
Organisers said the programme was aimed at strengthening the spiritual lives of Muslims, fostering unity among members of the Tijjaniya brotherhood, and seeking Allah’s mercy and blessings for Nigeria.
The event concluded with special prayers for the traditional institution, government, and the continued peace, stability and development of Kogi State and the nation.
