A Lokoja-based lawyer, public affairs analyst and human rights activist, Barrister Shuaibu Ibrahim, has rejected the purported suspension of eight members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, demanding its immediate reversal.
Ibrahim made his position known in a letter dated August 27, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the APC in Lokoja Local Government Area, titled: “Notice of Unlawful and Null Suspension of Party Loyalist and Immediate Demand for Reversal.”
The lawyer said he was reacting to the purported suspension of eight party loyalists, including Talba Lakwaja, Assistant Youth Leader; Comrade Yusuf Bala Namama, Ward C Chairman; Tijani Ibrahim, Ward D Chairman; and Ibrahim Shaba Abdullahi, Kupa North Chairman.
Others listed in the letter are Isah Mohammed of Kupa North; Alhaji Gambo of Ward A; Mohammed Shehu Abubakar, P.R.O.; and Mohammed Yakubu, Assistant Financial Secretary of the APC.
Ibrahim described the purported suspension as unlawful, arguing that it violated the APC constitution and the principles of natural justice.
He said the suspension was “repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscience,” stressing that party members should be afforded due process before any disciplinary action is taken against them.
According to him, the development was received with “utter shock,” adding that the affected party loyalists deserved fair hearing in accordance with the provisions of the party’s constitution.
He maintained that internal party disputes should be handled through established procedures and mechanisms provided by the party constitution rather than through actions that could further deepen divisions among members.
The lawyer called on the Lokoja APC leadership to review the circumstances surrounding the purported suspension and take immediate steps to rescind the decision.
He further urged the party leadership to ensure that all members are treated fairly, irrespective of their positions, affiliations or differences within the party.
Ibrahim said adherence to due process would not only protect the rights of the affected members but would also help preserve peace, unity and discipline within the APC in Lokoja Local Government Area.
He warned that decisions taken without proper consultation and fair hearing could create unnecessary tension among party members and undermine confidence in the party’s internal democratic processes.
The lawyer also appealed to APC stakeholders and leaders in Lokoja to embrace dialogue and reconciliation in resolving the matter, stressing that unity remains essential for the party’s strength and success.
He said the affected members should be allowed to continue performing their legitimate party responsibilities pending any disciplinary process conducted in line with the APC constitution.
Ibrahim therefore reiterated his demand for the immediate reversal of the purported suspension, urging the Lokoja APC leadership to act in the interest of justice, fairness and the overall unity of the party.
The development is expected to generate further discussions among APC stakeholders in Lokoja as efforts continue to maintain cohesion within the party ahead of future political activities.
