Residents of Sarkin-Noma in the Nataco area of Lokoja, Kogi State, have raised the alarm over the deplorable condition of the Nataco–Nnamaka–Sarkin-Noma–Up Nataco road, calling for urgent government intervention.
The residents specifically appealed to the Kogi State Government and the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Abdulsalam Ozigi Deedat, to urgently address the dangerous potholes which they said have turned the road into a death trap.
According to the residents, the worsening condition of the road has forced motorists, including heavy-duty trailers, to abandon their lanes and drive against traffic in an attempt to avoid the potholes.
They said the situation has resulted in serious accidents, with more than five lives reportedly lost between last week and Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The residents expressed concern that the movement of heavy-duty trailers on the opposite lane poses a serious threat to motorists, pedestrians and residents living along the road.
They warned that unless urgent steps are taken to repair the road, more lives could be lost.
The concerned residents therefore called on the Kogi State Government, the Federal Government and relevant road authorities to immediately mobilise for the rehabilitation of the affected portions of the road.
They stressed that prompt repairs would restore safe vehicular movement and help prevent further accidents and loss of lives.
The residents appealed to the authorities to treat the road as an emergency, saying immediate intervention is needed to protect residents and other road users.
