The Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Lokoja, has graduated 77 students at its 34th Annual Maulud celebration and graduation ceremony organised by the Sheikh Yusuf Abdallah Foundation International.
The event brought together Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, students, parents, community leaders and other distinguished guests to celebrate the achievements of the institution and its graduating students.
Dignitaries at the occasion included the Maigari of Lokoja, represented by the Waziri of Lokoja, Alhaji Abdulrahman Idris, Kadi’s, top government officials, Islamic clerics, community leaders, parents and other guests.
In his opening remarks, the Principal of the school, Yahaya Mambo, appealed to the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the institution wherever they found themselves.
Mambo disclosed that the students performed creditably in the just-concluded West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WAEC, describing the feat as a reflection of the commitment of the students and teachers.
He commended the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Mallam Abdulrazak Mohammed Yusuf, for his support to the institution.
According to him, the SUBEB Chairman facilitated the construction of two classroom blocks and provided ICT equipment for the school, describing the interventions as significant contributions to improving teaching and learning.
The Principal prayed for all individuals and organisations that had assisted the institution in one way or another, asking Allah to reward them abundantly.
He also offered special prayers for the founding father of the institution, the late Sheikh Yusuf Abdallah, whose contributions to Arabic and Islamic education remained worthy of remembrance.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the event, Justice Sulaiman Muhammad Bala, Kadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal, congratulated the 77 graduates on their successful completion of their studies.
Bala also prayed for the founding fathers of the institution and commended their sacrifices towards promoting Islamic and Arabic education.
The 34th Annual Maulud celebration featured Islamic lectures, prayers and special supplications for peace, unity and national development in Nigeria, Kogi State and Lokoja.
In his remarks, the school head boy, Abdulsamad Inusa Opeyemi, expressed appreciation to the teachers and parents for their support, guidance and sacrifices throughout the students’ academic journey.
He advised students still in the school to remain focused on their studies and shun social vices that could jeopardise their future.
The organisers expressed appreciation to the Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, parents, guests and supporters whose contributions ensured the successful hosting of both the Maulud celebration and the graduation ceremony.
