Former Director-General of the Kogi State Bureau of Lands, Alhaji Abdulmalik Teina, has petitioned the Senate over the demolition of properties linked to his family in Okene, Kogi State, alleging that the exercise was politically motivated and carried out in violation of due process.
The petition, addressed to the President of the Senate and submitted through Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan, seeks the intervention of the National Assembly in what the petitioners described as an unlawful and unjust demolition carried out by the Kogi State Government.
According to the petition, the demolished properties belonged to members of Teina’s family and were allegedly pulled down without adequate notice, compensation, or adherence to established legal procedures governing land acquisition and demolition.
Teina, who served as Director-General of the Kogi State Bureau of Lands, claimed that the action amounted to a violation of the constitutional rights of the affected property owners. He further alleged that the demolition was targeted and politically motivated, calling on the Senate to investigate the circumstances surrounding the exercise.
The petition urged the National Assembly to compel relevant authorities to provide explanations for the demolition and ensure that justice is served for the affected families.
It also called for an independent inquiry into the matter and requested appropriate compensation for losses suffered as a result of the demolition.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, was said to have received the petition for onward presentation before the Senate, where the matter is expected to be considered in line with legislative procedures.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kogi State Government had not officially responded to the allegations contained in the petition.
The development has generated public interest across Kogi Central, with observers awaiting the Senate’s response and any official reaction from the state government regarding the claims raised by the former lands bureau chief.
