Residents of Donamis Church area reportedly caught and killed a suspected serial motorcycle thief, identified as Emmanuel, on Thursday night after he allegedly snatched an okada.

Eyewitnesses said Emmanuel and an accomplice stopped the rider, claiming they wanted to go to Ganaja village, then threatened him and forcefully took the motorcycle.

The rider raised the alarm, prompting nearby residents to give chase.

The accomplice reportedly jumped off and fled, but Emmanuel was pursued, caught near Donamis Church, and reportedly killed by the mob before security forces could intervene.

Sources revealed that Emmanuel had been struggling to pay the dowry for his fiancée at Adankolo New Layout, Lokoja.

Locals said theft had often been his way of solving personal problems, describing him as someone with a history of criminal activity.

His body was later transported to his hometown in Ibaji for burial.

Community members expressed mixed emotions over the incident.

While many praised residents for taking swift action against crime, others warned that mob justice could spiral out of control, potentially endangering innocent lives.

Local leaders have called for greater community policing and stronger security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

The incident has sparked a debate on social media, with many questioning the rising cases of motorcycle theft in Lokoja.

Residents are calling for urgent interventions to curb the trend and ensure public safety.
