The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Mohammed Aliyu, for allegedly attempting to steal a Hyundai Santa Fe vehicle parked at the Customs Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammad Sanusi, disclosed this while addressing newsmen on the activities of the Command.
According to Sanusi, the suspect, who is not a resident of the Federal Capital Territory, was arrested on September 15, 2026, following an alleged attempt to steal the vehicle.
The Commissioner said preliminary investigation revealed that Aliyu allegedly specialised in breaking into vehicles parked in public places and unlawfully removing them for onward sale in Kaduna State.
He disclosed that the suspect had previously been arrested in Garki and Zuba for similar offences and charged to court.
Sanusi said following his release, Aliyu travelled to Gombe State, his home state, but later returned to the FCT, where he allegedly resumed his activities.
The Commissioner further disclosed that the suspect had reportedly confessed to breaking into more than 10 vehicles in the past.
He said investigation into the matter was ongoing, assuring that further developments would be communicated to the public.
Sanusi reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling vehicle theft and other criminal activities across the Federal Capital Territory.
