The Senior Special Assistant on Grassroot Sensitization to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Hon. Yussuff Bonanza, has faulted a report by Sahara Reporters alleging that heaps of refuse and waste have taken over Lokoja, describing the publication as misleading and inaccurate.
Bonanza said the report only captured a section of Nostalgia Junction but wrongly gave the impression that the entire Lokoja metropolis was dirty.
According to him, such generalization does not reflect the true sanitation condition of the Kogi State capital, stressing that Lokoja remains one of the cleanest state capitals in the country.
He noted that the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has continued to place priority on environmental cleanliness through sustained sanitation efforts across the city.
The aide commended the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engr. Joseph Oluwasegun, for what he described as tireless efforts in keeping Lokoja clean through regular refuse evacuation, drainage clearing, and monitoring of sanitation activities day and night.
Bonanza also praised Alhaji Ali Bello (Atimpo), Chief of Staff to the Chief Servant of Kogi State, for his support and commitment toward ensuring Lokoja and its environs remain clean for healthy living.
Hon. Yussuff Bonanza stated that there is visible evidence of ongoing cleaning operations in several parts of Lokoja, contrary to the impression created by the online report.
He, however, advised Sahara Reporters and other media organisations to always verify their claims and carry out proper findings before publishing stories capable of misleading the public.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Kogi State Government to maintaining a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for residents of Lokoja and the state at large.
