A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi West, Alhaji Tajudeen Bisimilahi, has rejected the alleged endorsement of Hon. Samuel Bamidele Aro as consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial race in the district.
Bisimilahi, through his campaign organization, described the endorsement as “faceless and undemocratic,” insisting that no individual or group has the authority to impose a candidate on party members.
In a statement issued on Monday, the campaign said the purported endorsement lacked legitimacy because it was not backed by recognized APC structures in Kogi West.
The organization maintained that Bisimilahi was never consulted before the alleged consensus arrangement and vowed that the aspirant would contest the party primaries.
According to the statement, the APC constitution provides for consensus only when all aspirants willingly agree, stressing that direct primaries remain the valid option where disagreements exist.
The group also cited comments reportedly made by APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, and Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, in support of transparent internal party processes.
Bisimilahi’s camp further questioned Aro’s political consistency, alleging that he had moved across political parties before returning to the APC.
The statement urged supporters of the aspirant to remain calm and focused, assuring them that Bisimilahi would participate fully in the primaries.
The development is the latest twist in the growing political contest within the APC ahead of the 2027 senatorial race in Kogi West.
