The Social Democratic Party (SDP), Kogi State chapter, has elected Dr. Emmanuel Achimugu as State Chairman of its 2026 State Working Committee.
The well-attended congress, held on Monday at the party’s state secretariat, also produced other key officials to manage the affairs of the party across the state.
Agomi Ojapa Yusuf emerged as Deputy Chairman, while Alhaji Idris Sofada was elected Secretary. Hon. Noah Emmanuel Akwu, Lukman Yahaya Suleman, and Isah Abdulkarim were elected as Zonal Vice Chairmen.
Other members of the committee include Simon Agada as Organizing Secretary, Lamdi Salami as Treasurer, and Mohammed Jimoh as Financial Secretary. Zakari Ahmed Buhari emerged as Youth Leader, while Mrs. Ronke Emife was elected Women Leader.
Also elected are Prince Moses Dakwu as Legal Adviser, Mr. Jethro Olusegun as Welfare Secretary, and Ibrahim Momohsani Hassan as Deputy Secretary. Mustapha Inuwa will serve as representative of Persons with Disability, while Affor Freedom was elected State Secretary for Labour and Civil Society. Ilemona A. Ichaba, Ph.D, will serve as Publicity Secretary.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman thanked officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for monitoring the congress and commended party members for their peaceful conduct.
He pledged to take the party to an enviable height and expressed confidence that it would win future elections.
The newly elected Secretary, Alhaji Idris Sofada, who read out the names of the elected officials, also thanked members of the party for their support and cooperation, describing the exercise as successful and orderly.
The congress was described by stakeholders as peaceful and transparent, underscoring the commitment of the Kogi State Social Democratic Party to internal democracy and good governance.
