The Kogi State Council of Ulama’u has concluded its 1447 Ramadan lecture series held at the Lokoja Central Mosque in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.
The event began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, setting a spiritual tone for the gathering which attracted Islamic scholars, government officials, traditional title holders and other dignitaries.
In his address, the Administrative Secretary of the Council, Alhaji Idris Baba’Ango, stressed the importance of the lecture series, describing it as a vital platform for promoting Islamic teachings and moral values among Muslims.
He explained that the programme is an annual event of the council aimed at strengthening unity and religious understanding among the Muslim community in the state.
Baba’Ango appreciated dignitaries who attended the closing ceremony and commended the Kogi State Government for its continued support and assistance to religious organisations in the state.
He also prayed for the governor and all political appointees, asking Allah to grant them wisdom and success in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Delivering the lecture, Prof. Muhammad Sulaiman Audu, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, emphasized the importance of sustaining the spiritual discipline and good character developed during Ramadan.
He urged Muslims to continue to uphold the virtues of patience, charity, honesty and devotion even after the fasting period, noting that the essence of Ramadan lies in transforming the lives of believers for the better.
Prof. Audu also called on the faithful to promote peaceful coexistence, unity and mutual respect within their communities, stressing that Islam encourages justice, compassion and social harmony.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Danladi Faruq, commended the Council of Ulama’u for organizing the lecture series and praised the guest lecturer for his insightful presentation.
The Chairman of the occasion was the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Umar Yusuf Aliyu, who was represented by Hon. Abubakar Yahaya Hussani, the member representing Kogi Constituency.
In his brief address, Hon. Hussani praised the Council of Ulama’u for promoting religious education and encouraged residents to continue applying the lessons of Ramadan in their daily lives, saying, “The teachings we receive during Ramadan should guide our actions all year round, strengthening our families, communities, and the moral fabric of our state.”
Dignitaries at the event also included the member representing Lokoja I State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Shehu Tijjani Bin Ebaiya, his Lokoja II counterpart, Chairman Civil Service Commission, Barrister Tanko Osuku, top politicians, Islamic scholars, and several traditional title holders.
Also present was the representative of the Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Babakurun Abdulrahman Baba’Ango, the Waziri of Lokoja, alongside other community leaders who commended the council for sustaining the annual lecture aimed at deepening Islamic knowledge among the faithful.
The programme ended with special prayers for peace, unity and continued progress of Kogi State and Nigeria.
