The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old suspect, Muhammad Abubakar, from Dei-Dei in connection with an alleged child molestation case involving minors aged between 10 and 14 years.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Joyce Adeh, on behalf of the Command.
According to the statement, the suspect was apprehended on May 1, 2026, and is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, commended residents for their vigilance and prompt reporting, which led to the swift arrest.
He also urged parents and guardians to remain attentive to the safety and welfare of children.
Police sources said the incident was reported by concerned residents who noticed suspicious behaviour and quickly alerted security operatives, prompting immediate intervention.
The Command stressed that cases involving minors are treated with utmost priority and sensitivity, assuring that due process will be followed to ensure justice while protecting the identities of the victims.
Residents of Dei-Dei and surrounding communities were encouraged to strengthen community policing efforts by reporting suspicious activities and cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
The police further emphasized the need for continuous child safety education and open communication between parents and children to help prevent abuse.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on crimes against children, the FCT Police Command warned that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
