Senator Solomon Lalong has called for urgent and decisive action following the recent attacks in Angwan Rukuba, located in Jos, describing the incident as tragic and unacceptable.
Raising the matter on the floor of the Senate, the former Plateau State governor expressed deep concern over the recurring violence in the state and the loss of innocent lives.
He stressed that mere condemnation is no longer enough, urging the Federal Government and security agencies to take concrete steps to prevent further attacks.
Senator Lalong called for enhanced intelligence gathering, swift arrest and prosecution of perpetrators, and the strengthening of security presence in vulnerable communities to restore normalcy and public confidence.
He also emphasized the need for proactive engagement with community leaders, noting that dialogue and cooperation remain key to achieving lasting peace in Plateau State.
The lawmaker further urged the National Emergency Management Agency and other relevant bodies to provide immediate relief and support to victims of the attacks, including medical assistance and shelter for displaced persons.
Senator Lalong equally called on the Senate to constitute an ad hoc committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, with a view to recommending lasting solutions and preventing future occurrences.
He warned against reprisals and acts of self-help, appealing to residents to remain calm and law-abiding while security agencies carry out their duties.
The Angwan Rukuba incident has once again brought national focus to the persistent security challenges in Plateau State, with growing calls for comprehensive and sustainable measures to address the root causes of the crisis.
