Family members, friends, and sympathizers on Sunday gathered at Alheri Street in Lokoja for a fidau prayer in honour of the late Hajiya Zainab Lami Yusuf.
The solemn prayer session was led by Islamic scholar, Sheikh Estu Kenchi, who offered special supplications for the repose of the deceased’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to grant her Aljannatul Firdaus and forgive her shortcomings.
Other prominent clerics who joined in leading the prayers included Sheikh Ibrahim Abubakar Yusuf from Ilorin and Sheikh Athairu Amodu of Lokoja, who also offered prayers and words of admonition to the gathering.
In his sermon, Sheikh Kenchi reminded attendees of the inevitability of death and urged the faithful to live righteous lives in accordance with Islamic teachings. He also encouraged the family to remain steadfast in faith and take solace in the will of Allah.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Rev. Yinka Yusuf and Taiye Yusuf offered prayers for the late Hajiya Zainab Lami Yusuf and expressed appreciation to all those who came to grace the occasion and support the family during their time of grief.
Also speaking, a family friend, Alhaji Baba Sulaiman, the Dama of Lokoja, prayed for the repose of the deceased and asked God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
The gathering featured recitations from the Holy Qur’an, with clerics and attendees offering prayers for the deceased and comfort for the bereaved family.
Many attendees described the late Hajiya Zainab Lami Yusuf as a woman of virtue, humility, and generosity, noting that her life was marked by service to humanity and devotion to her faith.
Some community leaders at the event urged the younger generation to emulate her exemplary lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of good character, kindness, and commitment to family and community values.
The ceremony was well attended by politicians, top government officials, and Islamic clerics, underscoring the wide reach and impact of the deceased during her lifetime.
The atmosphere at the venue was solemn yet reflective, as attendees shared fond memories of the deceased and prayed collectively for her eternal rest.
The fidau prayer drew a large turnout of community members, Islamic clerics, and well-wishers, reflecting the respect and admiration the late matriarch commanded during her lifetime.
