The family of the late Captain Aliyu Umar Hajji held an 8-day fidau prayer on Saturday at their residence on Madabo Street in Lokoja, honouring his memory.
The solemn session was led by the Chief Imam of Lokoja, Sheikh Aminu Shaban, who prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and urged the family to remain patient and steadfast in faith during this difficult period.
Verses from the Holy Qur’an were recited, with clerics and attendees offering supplications for Allah’s mercy, forgiveness, and eternal rest for the departed.
In his sermon, Sheikh Shaban highlighted the transient nature of life, encouraging attendees to uphold righteousness and reminding them that good deeds are the true legacy one leaves behind.
Speaking to newsmen, Alhaji Abdulalam Danladi Muhammad, the elder brother of the deceased, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who supported the family during and after the tragedy.
He prayed for divine reward for everyone who stood by them.
Dignitaries in attendance included Hon. Shaba Ibrahim, former House of Representatives member representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency; Alhaji Mundi Banma, chairman of Danko Development Forum; as well as Hakimis, traditional title holders, and Islamic clerics.
They expressed deep sadness over Captain Hajji’s death, describing it as a great loss to both his family and the wider community, and prayed for his peaceful repose.
Captain Aliyu Umar Hajji was reportedly killed alongside other security personnel following an ambush by suspected bandits in Plateau State last week, raising concerns over ongoing security challenges in parts of the country.
Family members described him as a man of honour, discipline, and dedication, whose life made a lasting impact on those around him.
The fidau prayer drew a large turnout of sympathizers, community leaders, and residents of Lokoja, who gathered to pay their respects and offer condolences.
Prayers were also offered for peace, unity, and security across Kogi State.
