The ancient city of Lokoja came alive on Friday as family members, friends, political leaders, traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, and other distinguished personalities gathered to witness the wedding Fatiha of Maryam Muhammad Nasiru and Sheikh Muhammad Yahya Abubilat.
The colourful ceremony was held at Markas Zauya Sheikh Yusuf Abdallah shortly after the Jumat prayer and attracted guests from across Kogi State and beyond, reflecting the high regard in which the families of the bride and groom are held.
Sheikh Muhammad Yahya Abubilat, the groom, is the Chief Imam of Isah Kutepa Jama’at Mosque in Lokoja and is widely respected for his commitment to Islamic teachings, community development, and peaceful coexistence.
The wedding Fatiha was officiated by the Chief Imam of Lokoja, Sheikh Aminu Shaban, who solemnized the marriage in accordance with Islamic injunctions. In his sermon, he urged the newlyweds to build their marriage on the principles of piety, love, patience, mutual respect, sincerity, and understanding, stressing that these virtues are essential for a successful and enduring family.
The event drew an impressive gathering of top government officials, politicians, traditional rulers, Islamic clerics, business leaders, and well-wishers, many of whom offered prayers and goodwill messages to the couple.
Speaking on behalf of the groom, Alhaji Abdulrahman Tafida expressed heartfelt appreciation to everyone who attended the ceremony despite their busy schedules.
He prayed that Almighty Allah would richly reward all those who honoured the invitation and grant the newly married couple a peaceful, prosperous, and blessed home.
Several dignitaries who spoke separately congratulated the couple and their families on the successful wedding.
They advised the bride and groom to remain committed to the values of faith, trust, sacrifice, and mutual support, noting that a strong marriage is built on understanding, effective communication, and unwavering respect for one another.
The ceremony concluded with special prayers for the couple, their families, the Muslim Ummah, and for lasting peace, unity, and development in Kogi State and Nigeria.
