The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, on Tuesday dismissed reports alleging that he had resigned from office, insisting that the claims were entirely false and aimed at distracting the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity across the country.
The Defence Minister spoke with journalists shortly after a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he briefed the President on the nation’s security situation and the progress of ongoing military operations.
Reacting to the speculation surrounding his purported resignation, General Musa said there had never been any discussion about stepping down from office, stressing that he remained fully committed to his assignment.
He described the reports as baseless and misleading, attributing them to individuals who were uncomfortable with the successes being recorded by the military in its operations against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements.
According to him, the administration of President Tinubu remains resolute in its determination to restore peace and security across the country, adding that security agencies are intensifying operations in troubled areas to protect lives and property.
The minister disclosed that his meeting with the President provided an opportunity to review the current security landscape, assess ongoing operations, and discuss additional strategies aimed at consolidating recent gains made by the armed forces.
General Musa said the military had continued to record significant operational successes through coordinated offensives, improved intelligence gathering, enhanced inter-agency collaboration, and sustained support from the Federal Government.
While acknowledging that security challenges still exist in some parts of the country, he assured Nigerians that the armed forces would not relent until criminal groups were decisively dealt with and normalcy fully restored.
He also appealed to citizens to support security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing operations, noting that the fight against insecurity requires the collective efforts of government and the public.
The Defence Minister further urged Nigerians to disregard the resignation rumours and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary tension or undermining national confidence.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria to safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of all Nigerians, expressing confidence that the nation’s security situation would continue to improve through sustained operations and public cooperation.
