The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the rehabilitation of two major federal road corridors traversing Kogi West Senatorial District, with contracts worth a combined N128.7 billion.

The projects include the rehabilitation of the Ilorin–Omu-Aran–Egbe–Kabba–Obajana Road at a cost of N104 billion and the Kabba–Omuo–Ifaki–Ado Road valued at N24.7 billion.

The approvals were granted during the Council’s meeting as part of the Federal Government’s nationwide road infrastructure programme.

According to a statement issued by Senator Sunday Karimi, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District, the approvals mark a significant milestone in efforts to improve critical infrastructure across the district under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President.

The statement said the development followed sustained advocacy by Senator Karimi, who engaged relevant stakeholders, including the Minister of Works, , to prioritise the rehabilitation of federal roads linking several communities in Kogi West.

It added that the projects fulfil one of the senator’s campaign commitments to facilitate the reconstruction of federal roads that have deteriorated over the years, with the aim of improving connectivity and promoting economic growth.

Senator Karimi expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the projects and commended the Minister of Works for what he described as his commitment to improving the nation’s road infrastructure.

He said the rehabilitation works are expected to ease transportation, boost commercial activities, improve access to agricultural and business hubs, create employment opportunities during construction, and enhance security along the affected corridors.

The senator reaffirmed his commitment to attracting more federal projects to Kogi West, assuring constituents that he would continue to pursue initiatives capable of improving infrastructure and the overall welfare of the people.
