Chairmen of Traditional Councils in Kogi West have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for what they described as proactive measures in tackling insecurity across the state.
The traditional rulers made their position known on Monday in Lokoja while issuing a communique at the end of their meeting. The communique was read by the Ohimegye Igu of Koton Karfe, HRM Dr. Sa’idu Akawu Salihu.
The meeting was attended by chairmen of the various Traditional Councils in Kogi West, while the Maigari of Lokoja was represented by the Olu of Oworo.
The traditional rulers acknowledged the security challenges confronting the region but noted that the combined efforts of the Federal and Kogi State Governments were yielding positive results.
They commended President Tinubu and Governor Ododo for their proactive approach to security and other measures aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.
The council chairmen reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence among the people of Kogi West, stressing the important role of traditional institutions in maintaining peace, unity and stability in their respective communities.
As political campaigns are set to commence tomorrow, the traditional rulers advised politicians and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully, responsibly and in accordance with the law.
They urged all political actors to respect the rights of other contestants, avoid inflammatory statements and desist from actions capable of causing violence or disrupting the peace and security of Kogi State.
The traditional rulers also called on politicians to accept the outcome of the electoral process and seek redress through lawful channels whenever they have grievances, stressing that the rule of law must remain paramount throughout the political season.
They further urged political parties and their supporters to see the 2027 electoral process as an opportunity to strengthen democracy rather than create division among the people.
The council chairmen expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for what they described as his giant strides in governance, while also commending Governor Ododo for his efforts towards the development and security of Kogi State.
They called on all stakeholders, irrespective of political affiliation, to support initiatives that promote peace, development and peaceful coexistence across Kogi West and Kogi State at large.
