Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested a man simply called, Adimami, who allegedly claimed to be an agent of the purported buyer of the old Lokoja Water Reservoir located in Karaworo, Lokoja.
Adimami was reportedly apprehended while supervising the vandalisation of water pipes at the facility following an intervention ordered by the Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Danladi Yahaya Faruq.
The arrest occurred during an inspection of the site by officials of the Ministry of Water Resources, accompanied by security personnel and journalists, including a reporter from National Watch Tv, who witnessed the operation.
Sources at the scene disclosed that the alleged buyer had mobilised a bulldozer to the reservoir and commenced the destruction of water infrastructure, including water pipes worth millions of naira, before security operatives intervened.
Witnesses said Adimami identified himself as an agent acting on behalf of the purported buyer of the facility before he was taken into police custody for questioning.
Preliminary findings by investigators, according to sources familiar with the matter, allegedly linked the controversial transaction to former Director-General of the Kogi State Bureau of Lands, Abdulmalik Teina.
The sources alleged that Teina was involved in the illegal sale of the old reservoir, a government-owned facility.
However, the allegations remain subject to ongoing investigations and legal scrutiny.
Observers recalled that Teina was removed from office by Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, over allegations of land racketeering and was subsequently charged to court.
The latest controversy has renewed public concern over the protection of government assets and the need for transparency in land administration.
The old reservoir, situated in Karaworo, remains a strategic component of Lokoja’s public water infrastructure.
Officials described the alleged vandalisation as a direct attack on public property and condemned the destruction of facilities meant to serve residents.
Speaking during the operation, officials of the Ministry of Water Resources reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure and ensuring that all individuals found culpable are brought to justice.
Security agencies have since secured the area to prevent further damage, while investigations continue into the alleged illegal sale of the reservoir and the extent of destruction caused to public assets.
