Eminent Muslim scholars, clerics, traditional leaders, and dignitaries on Tuesday gathered in Lokoja for the eight-day Fidau prayer held in honour of the late Islamic scholar, Ustaz Abdulsalam Salihu.
The prayer session, which took place at the deceased’s family residence in Karaworo, attracted a large crowd of followers, students, family members, and sympathisers from different walks of life who came to pray for the repose of his soul and celebrate his impactful life.
Among those in attendance were representatives of the Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi. The delegation was led by Alhaji Isah Nasidi, the Hakimi of Ward D.
Late Ustaz Abdulsalam Salihu, proprietor of Karaworo Islamic School, passed away penultimate Tuesday and was buried the same day in accordance with Islamic rites.
The deceased was widely respected for his contributions to Islamic education, scholarship, and community development. He was also the younger brother of the Publisher and Proprietor of National Watch TV, Alhaji Amuda Dan Sulaiman Fab.
Leading the Fidau prayer, the Chief Imam of Lokoja, Sheikh Aminu Shaban, described the late scholar as a devoted servant of Allah who lived a life of righteousness, humility, and selfless service to humanity.
According to the Chief Imam, Ustaz Salihu was an accomplished Islamic scholar who not only preached the teachings of Islam but also exemplified them through his conduct and relationship with people.
“He was a man of knowledge, humility, kindness, and compassion. His life was dedicated to the propagation of Islam and the moral upbringing of the younger generation,” Sheikh Shaban said.
Other Islamic clerics who spoke during the prayer session also described the death of Ustaz Salihu as a great loss to the Muslim Ummah in Lokoja Local Government Area and beyond.
They offered prayers for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased and asked Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, accept his return, and grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus.
In a condolence message delivered through his representatives, the Maigari of Lokoja paid glowing tribute to the late Islamic scholar, describing him as a spiritual guide whose teachings and good works positively impacted countless lives.
The traditional ruler prayed for strength and comfort for the family, students, disciples, and admirers of the deceased, urging them to take solace in the enduring legacy of faith, scholarship, and service he left behind.
“He urges the Muslim community to be comforted by the legacy of good deeds, years of dedication to Islamic evangelism, and commitment to the teachings of Islamic monotheism that Ustaz Salihu left behind,” the message stated.
Speaking on behalf of the family shortly after the prayer session, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo, an uncle of the deceased, expressed appreciation to all those who attended the Fidau prayer and supported the family during the period of mourning.
He thanked the scholars, traditional leaders, friends, associates, and well-wishers for their prayers and solidarity, praying for Allah’s blessings and safe journeys back to their respective destinations.
The highlight of the occasion was the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an and special prayers offered for the deceased and members of his family.
