The Governor of Charles Soludo has dismissed the one-term promise reportedly made by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing it as unrealistic and politically deceptive.
Soludo, while speaking during a public engagement, said promises of serving only one term in office are often used as political strategies to attract support from different regions of the country, insisting that such declarations should not be taken seriously by Nigerians.
According to the Anambra State governor, no politician seeking the presidency would willingly plan to leave office after just four years if given the opportunity to continue.
He argued that the nature of Nigerian politics and governance makes such promises difficult to fulfill.
The governor further stated that Nigerians should focus more on concrete policies, economic plans, and leadership capacity rather than emotional political statements and campaign slogans.
Soludo’s comments have since sparked reactions among supporters of both leaders, especially on social media, where many Nigerians continue to debate the credibility of campaign promises ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Peter Obi had previously hinted that he could consider serving a single term if elected president, a statement that generated mixed reactions across the political landscape.
Supporters of the former Anambra governor argued that the proposal was aimed at promoting equity, fairness, and national unity.
Political observers believe the latest remarks by Soludo may further deepen the political rivalry between the two prominent Anambra politicians as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum.
