Eid al-Fitr: Maigari of Lokoja Calls for Prayers, Lawfulness Amid Security Concerns

The Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi, has called on Nigerians to remain prayerful and law-abiding amid ongoing security challenges, following the successful celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

Speaking during the Hawan-Bariki ceremony at Paparanda Square on Saturday, the traditional ruler revealed that arrangements for the Eid prayer were adjusted to ensure the safety of worshippers.

He explained that, from the first day after Ramadan, the usual central mosque arrangements were reviewed due to concerns over overcrowding and potential security risks.

“Consultations with the local government and other authorities led to relocating activities to a safer and more convenient location. Alhamdulillah, the entire process was peaceful, and we thank Allah for His guidance and protection,” he said.

Highlighting Paparanda Square’s longstanding role as the centre for Hawan-Bariki and other communal events, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi expressed gratitude for this year’s smooth and incident-free celebrations.

The highlight of the occasion was a vibrant cultural display, showcasing the rich traditions and heritage of Lokoja.

He encouraged youths and community members to actively participate in religious and cultural events, emphasizing that such involvement strengthens communal bonds and fosters responsibility.

Addressing broader national concerns, the Maigari urged Nigerians to intensify prayers amid prevailing insecurity, which he noted affects lives and economic growth by discouraging investment.

“We must continue to pray and have faith in Allah. The security challenges are impacting not just lives but also the economy,” he said.

He further called on citizens to remain law-abiding, respect authorities, and promote unity and cooperation in their communities.

The monarch stressed the importance of dialogue between community leaders and government officials in resolving conflicts and preventing crises.

Commending government officials, particularly the state governor, for their efforts in maintaining order, he said, “We must continue to respect those in authority and support them in the responsibility of governance.”

He also urged religious leaders to preach peace and tolerance, highlighting harmony among faiths as vital for national development.

In conclusion, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi reminded residents that Eid al-Fitr is not only a time for prayers and celebration but also an opportunity to reflect on moral conduct, charity, and social responsibility.

He called on all to uphold honesty, respect for others, and dedication to the collective good of the community.
