A scene of chaos unfolded in Owerri, Imo State, as a crowd scrambled for empowerment items meant for selected members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during an event organised by the Cityboys Movement, a support group linked to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Eyewitnesses reported that the situation quickly turned chaotic when a large number of attendees surged toward the distribution point, ignoring the list of approved beneficiaries prepared for the empowerment programme.
Despite the presence of security personnel at the venue, the crowd reportedly overwhelmed organisers and made away with several items meant for distribution.
The items allegedly taken included bags of rice, sewing machines and minibuses that had been designated for selected beneficiaries.
The development reportedly caused disappointment among dignitaries present at the event, including Seyi Tinubu, son of the Nigerian president, whose presence had attracted many supporters to the programme.
Videos of the incident have since circulated widely on social media, triggering mixed reactions from the public over the management of the event and the conduct of the crowd.
