The Kogi State Government has launched a combined air and ground security operation in response to a violent attack on a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area, where gunmen invaded a night church service and abducted worshippers.
The operation includes deployment of a surveillance helicopter and a special anti-kidnapping tactical team currently combing forests surrounding Ejiba and neighbouring communities in search of the kidnapped victims and the attackers.
According to security sources, the armed men stormed the church late Saturday night, shooting sporadically before escaping with several worshippers, including the pastor identified as Orlando.
Confirming the incident, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, said Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo ordered immediate security action to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted persons and arrest of the criminals.
“This government will not tolerate criminal attacks on innocent citizens. We have mobilised ground forces and aerial surveillance to track down the kidnappers and rescue the victims,” Fanwo stated.
He urged residents to remain calm and assist security agencies with useful information, assuring that the government is committed to restoring peace and security in affected communities.
Tension remains high across Ejiba and its environs as families await updates on the ongoing rescue mission.
