The political atmosphere in Kogi State has continued to heat up as some political appointees have openly declared that they remain steadfast in their loyalty to Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, insisting that threats of dismissal will not intimidate them.
Speaking to a NationalWatch TV correspondent on Sunday, the appointees — who requested anonymity due to fear of retaliation — expressed frustration over what they described as undue interference in the running of government by a former governor of the state.
According to one of them:
“We are still loyal to Hon. Faleke. If you like, sack us. Political appointments are temporary, but loyalty is permanent. We refuse to compromise our integrity because of fear.”
Another appointee questioned the continued influence of a former governor over state leadership decisions.
He said: “How can we remain like this when a former governor still controls the affairs of the state? He makes appointments and policies. This kind of thing has never happened anywhere in the country.”
The source added that the situation has created deep discomfort within government circles, leading to growing suspicion and political tension.
“People are being monitored and victimized simply because they are perceived to be close to Hon. Faleke. That is not democracy,” he lamented.
The remarks come amid strong speculation that mass sack of officials believed to be loyal to Hon. Faleke is imminent, following ongoing internal power struggles and calls by some stakeholders urging Faleke to contest in future elections in Kogi State.
Political observers warn that the crisis, if not properly managed, could destabilize the party structure and polarize supporters ahead of crucial political developments.
