Flood victims in Adankolo in Lokoja local government area of Kogi State that were ravaged with flood, have pleaded for an urgent government intervention.
They also appealed to international organizations to urgently come to their aid in order to curb the impact of the annual flood that has destroyed several farmlands and other valuables.
Several houses, public buildings and farm produce were said to have been destroyed in the area, leaving residents in abject poverty.
In an with Nationalwatch Tv in Adankolo on Wednesday, they disclosed that they were ready for resettlement but are seeking the governmentâs support in the resettlement process.
They explained that Adankolo community is persistently ravaged by flood annually, which had been more devastating due to their location.
A resident of Adankolo estate, Madam Maimuna Atodo revealed that the people of the area now live in poverty due to the devastating effect of the continues flood on the people, a situation that calls for concern by all.
Atodo said that the people are ready to relocate but have no means.
“My building has been sumarged already, but I don’t have money to park my property from the building. I didn’t have money to rent another house. I am appealing to the government to assist those of us affected by the flood.
She lamented that the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KSEMA), have not given them any relief items.
She added that they were vulnerable to all kinds of water borne diseases and infections, due to lack of good drinking water and toilet facilities.
Recall that the Kogi State Government has recently established 42 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps across 8 Local Government Areas with 9 flood-prone communities as a proactive measure towards mitigating the flood impact in the wet season.
