Scores of bandits and other criminal elements hiding within forests in Kogi State were over the weekend neutralised following a coordinated joint security operation involving ground troops and precision aerial strikes.
The operation, which was intelligence-led, saw land forces effectively encircle and pin down the criminal elements, while the Nigerian Air Force deployed precision air support with what security sources described as exceptional accuracy.
The combined assault resulted in heavy casualties among the bandits and the disruption of their hideouts within the forest corridors.
The successful operation is seen as further proof of the commitment of the Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Ahmed Usman Ododo, to rid the state of banditry and all forms of criminality.
It also underscores the effectiveness of the sustained and watertight collaboration between the Kogi State Government and security agencies operating within the state.
Since the intensification of the campaign against banditry, security formations including the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Lugard, the Nigeria Police Force, Kogi State Command, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have recorded notable successes.
Local non-conventional security outfits such as vigilantes and hunters have also played a critical support role, demonstrating courage and deep knowledge of the terrain.
Residents of affected communities have expressed renewed confidence in the security architecture of the state, commending the professionalism and dedication of the operatives involved in the operation.
As security efforts continue, prayers and goodwill have been extended to the men and women on the frontlines, who risk their lives daily to safeguard lives, property, and communities across Kogi State.
