The Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Senator Sunday Steve Karimi has kick-started the process of distributing One Hundred Thousand Naira each to 1,000 deserving Students from the Senatorial District in Tertiary Institutions across the Country.
This is as the Students’ Bodies have passed votes of confidence on his ability and capabilities to lead the Zone to the path of growth and development.
This was disclosed in a Press Conference, organised by the Committee in charge of the Bursary Award Scheme held in Lokoja on Thursday, 8th August, 2024.
Giving the progress report of the disbursement Committee, the Project Manager of Senator Sunday Steve Karimi’s Students’ Bursary Award Scheme, Dr. Bawa Dangana intimated the prospective beneficiaries with the process of disbursement of the funds.
Dr. Bawa noted that the Distinguished Senator Karimi who knows how important is education to his Constituency, had decided to institute an Annual Scholarship Scheme to take care of the financial challenges facing Students of his Constituency.
He added that for the 2023/2024 Academic Session, a whooping sum of #100m has been earmarked to be disbursed at #100,000 to each of the qualified 1,000 Students spread across the 7 Local Government Areas of the Senatorial District.
He disclosed that aside the Bursary Award to deserving Students, #100m has equally been allocated to 50 Women Cooperative Societies within the District, adding that the Senator had attracted #1,200,000,000 from the Federal Government for the rehabilitation of Iluhagba-Egbe expressway and over #5m for the construction of Security Base at Kogi State University, (KSU) Kabba. At various times, he initiated supply of rice and semovita palliatives to the people of the Zone among numerous of his populist programmes.
Dr. Bawa said in the light of his gesture for the upliftment of the educational needs of the Youth and Women Empowerment, the Students’ Bodies from across the 7 LGAs have passed a vote of confidence in his meritorious service to the Constituency.
He counselled the detractors to sheath their sword and to join hands with Senator Sunday Karimi in his determination and commitment to the overall well-being and development of the Zone.
The Project Manager added that Senator Karimi is so busy and commited to his legislative business of ensuring good laws that will impact positively on the people of his District and Nigeria that he will not occupy his minds with frivolous and pettiness that does no good to the people he has sworn to defend at all times.
Dr. Bawa, maintained that Senator Karimi does not limit his benevolence to only his Constituency as he was consistently engaging the Youths across the 21 LGAs of Kogi State the need to shun the hunger strike which yielded peace and tranquility in the State.
He Commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the exhibition of pragmatic leadership which has made the State the Ambassador of the Renewed Hope mantra of the President Tinubu-led administration and urged the Youths to always toe the path of hard works and to shun every form of antisocial behaviours.
He therefore, appealed to the Federal Government to maximize the gains derived from the hunger strike and show more commitment to the immediate, medium and long term solutions to the problems facing the Country.
In her remarks, on behalf of the Students of the District, Comrade Omoniyi Emmanuella Omolara, Okun Students’ National President thanked the Distinguished Senator Karimi for his show of love for the gift of a whooping #100,000 each to the beneficiaries and promised that the Students would make productive use of the grant.
The President noted that the prospective beneficiaries and all the Students have pledged their loyalty and support for his programmes and plans in the National Assembly, even as they assured him of the massive support of the people.
