The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Kogi State Wing, on Wednesday staged an awareness walk in Lokoja to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary and to drum support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
At a press briefing held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Lokoja, the State Coordinator of PBAT in Kogi, Hon. Charity Ijese, said the movement was founded as a grassroots platform to bridge the gap between governance and the people.
She explained that the initiative, powered by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, is designed to sensitize Nigerians on government policies and the renewed hope agenda.
According to her, the awareness walk was organized both to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence and to demonstrate solidarity with President Tinubu’s administration.
“PBAT was founded as a grassroots platform to bridge the gap between governance and the people. Today’s walk is to mark our Independence as a nation and to call on Nigerians to rally behind the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is working tirelessly to reposition the country,” she stated.
After the briefing, participants embarked on the awareness walk from the NUJ Press Centre through major streets of Lokoja, before rounding off at Ganaja Junction.
The procession, which attracted a large crowd, featured placards and banners with inscriptions of support for the President and messages of hope for Nigeria at 65.
Ijese commended Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his unwavering support to the movement, noting that his leadership continues to align with the vision of the Tinubu-led administration.
She further stressed that the state’s collaboration with grassroots groups like PBAT was vital in sustaining citizen participation and confidence in governance.
She assured that PBAT would sustain its grassroots sensitization efforts across communities in Kogi State, stressing that the movement will continue to engage youths, women, and traditional leaders in spreading awareness on government programmes.
Some participants who spoke to journalists described the awareness walk as not only a show of solidarity with President Tinubu but also a patriotic act to mark Nigeria’s independence with renewed optimism.
They noted that despite the challenges facing the country, there was a collective responsibility for all Nigerians to support leaders working towards national development.
Others said the turnout of ordinary citizens for the awareness walk was proof that PBAT is gaining ground as a credible grassroots mobilization platform.
They added that the event rekindled the spirit of unity and patriotism among Kogi people, especially at a time when the nation is in need of cohesion.
Observers also noted that the colourful procession, which was peaceful and well-coordinated, brought a festive mood to Lokoja, reminding residents of the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers and the need to sustain the nation’s democratic journey.
The event ended with a pledge by PBAT members to intensify door-to-door campaigns in all 21 local government areas of Kogi State, ensuring that citizens are better informed and actively involved in the policies and programmes of President Tinubu’s administration.
