The Ohimegye Igu of Koton-Karfe, His Royal Majesty Alhaji (Dr) Saidu Akawu Salihu, last Friday inspected the ongoing renovation work at his palace in Koton-Karfe, Kogi Local Government Area.
Speaking during the inspection, the monarch expressed satisfaction with the level of work so far, describing it as a welcome development for the people of Koton-Karfe and the entire Igu Kingdom.
“I am impressed with the progress of work being carried out here. The renovation of this palace is not just about the building—it represents the preservation of our heritage and identity,” the Ohimegye stated.
He commended the Kogi State Government for awarding the renovation contract, noting that the gesture shows the administration’s recognition of the traditional institution as a vital partner in peacebuilding and grassroots development.
“I sincerely thank His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his respect and continuous support to traditional rulers. This project will go a long way in boosting the morale of our people and strengthening the bond between the government and the traditional council,” he added.
The royal father also called on the contractors handling the project to sustain the quality of work and ensure timely completion, assuring them of the community’s cooperation.
In his remarks, a community leader, Alhaji Umar Alhassan, lauded the state government for giving attention to the ancient palace, describing it as a symbol of unity and leadership in the area.
“The renovation of the Ohimegye’s palace is long overdue, and we thank the present administration for making it a reality,” he said.
Community leaders and stakeholders who accompanied the monarch on the inspection equally expressed delight over the development, saying the facelift will attract more visitors and promote tourism in Koton-Karfe.
Meanwhile, officials from the Ministry of Works and Housing who were on-site during the inspection disclosed that the project is progressing according to schedule and is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
They assured the monarch that high-quality materials are being used to ensure durability and a befitting edifice for the royal institution.
