The member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. (Elder) Leke Joseph Abejide, has responded to recent remarks attributed to Senator Dino Melaye, stating that his political strength and relevance are products of divine grace and the steadfast support of his constituents.
Abejide, who declined to engage in direct exchanges, said he preferred to devote his energy to service delivery rather than what he described as unnecessary distractions.
According to him, instead of reacting to what he termed politically motivated comments, he chose to return to God in thanksgiving for his successes and the stability of his political career.
He noted that his relevance at the local, national, and international levels is by “the making of the Lord,” adding that his constituents have demonstrated unwavering loyalty, which continues to propel his performance in the National Assembly.
Abejide further expressed confidence that the dividends of democracy he has facilitated across Okunland — particularly in Yagba Federal Constituency — remain visible and impactful.
He maintained that his development record speaks for itself.
According to him, representation should be measured by tangible service delivery, not verbal exchanges or attempts to seek publicity through controversies.
He stressed that leadership is about humility, accountability, and consistency, values he said he has upheld since assuming office.
The lawmaker also highlighted some of the major interventions he has attracted, noting that several communities across Yagba have benefitted from infrastructure projects, empowerment programmes, and legislative engagements aimed at improving the quality of life of the people.
Abejide added that he remains committed to expanding these efforts, promising that more developmental initiatives would be unveiled in the coming months.
He assured his constituents that his office would continue to operate an open-door policy, ensuring that all segments of the constituency have access to representation.
He urged youths and community leaders to remain focused on peace, unity, and progress, warning that political disagreements should never be allowed to derail collective development.
Abejide emphasized that Okunland stands to gain more when leaders prioritize collaboration over confrontation.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Public Communications, Bashiru Abdul Mohammed, the people were urged to continue to pray for the lawmaker as he pursues the mandate entrusted to him.
Mohammed reaffirmed Abejide’s commitment to fulfilling his legislative duties and upholding his oath of allegiance to the electorate.
He described Abejide as a dedicated public servant whose actions are guided by sincerity, mentioning that the lawmaker would not be deterred by comments aimed at distracting him. Mohammed encouraged constituents to remain steadfast, adding that the lawmaker’s focus remains on delivering more projects and meaningful representation.
