The Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi, has commemorated his one year on the throne with a prayer session dedicated to the peace and unity of the nation.
The occasion also included the distribution of food items to the less preveleged, during which prayers were offered for the well-being of the state and the country.
The celebration featured a visit to the tomb of the late Maigari of Lokoja, Dr Mohammodu Kabir Maikarfi, where the mornarch offered prayers for his soul.
Also, family-organised prayers were held at the Maigari’s palace pavilion officiated by leading clerics from the major Islamic traditions in the emirate.
In his remarks, the Maigari emphasised that the anniversary was marked modestly, given the socio-economic challenges facing the nation.
Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi ascended the throne on January 8, 2024, following the passing of his father, the late Maigari of Lokoja, Dr Muhammed Kabir Maikarfi, after a brief illness.
Leading the prayer session, the Chief Imam of Lokoja, Shiekh Aminu Shaban, prayed for the nation’s peace, unity and stability and an end to the ongoing security challenges.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State congratulated the Maigari on his one-year milestone, affirming the government’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions as custodians of the state’s cultural and religious heritage.
Represented by Engr. Faruq Yahaya Danladi, the Commissioner for Water Resources, the governor pledged to implement the newly-legislated minimum wage across the state, including for emirate staff, to enhance their performance.
