A prominent Islamic cleric, Imam Abdulgany, has strongly rebuked former lawmaker Dino Melaye, urging him to stop attacking the National Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide.

In a viral video delivered in Yoruba, Imam Abdulgany
challenged Melaye’s record of service and defended Abejide’s achievements.

The cleric directly questioned Melaye’s performance in his hometown, asking: “Leave Abejide alone and show us your projects in Ijumu Local Government Area. What have you done for your people apart from buying cars and fighting at the National Assembly?”

Contrasting Melaye’s record with Abejide’s, Imam Abdulgany highlighted the ADC leader’s consistent delivery of developmental projects and programs that have positively impacted his constituents.

“Dino Melaye was a former member of the House of Representatives and a Senator. What genuine representation did he offer during those years?” the cleric added, insisting that Melaye’s tenure “produced more drama than development.”

Reacting to Melaye’s alleged mockery of Abejide’s spoken English, Imam Abdulgany dismissed it as irrelevant, saying: “You said he cannot speak good English — what has speaking good English done for us?” He also countered Melaye’s description of Abejide as “local content,” asking: “What about you?”

The viral video has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians criticizing Melaye for personal attacks instead of focusing on issues that affect the electorate.

Social media users echoed Imam Abdulgany’s view that leadership should be measured by service and tangible results, not theatrics or language skills.

Observers say the confrontation has further highlighted the contrasting public images of the two politicians — Abejide celebrated for constituency projects, while Melaye is often associated with controversies.
