The Kogi Political Stakeholders Forum (KPSF) has declared its strong support for Sunday Steve Karimi, following reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) executives in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area passed a vote of no confidence on the senator.
In a statement issued by the forum’s State Coordinator, Sani Philips, the group said it was aware of the action taken by APC executives in Kabba/Bunu LGA and reports indicating that similar moves may be underway in other local government areas within the Kogi West Senatorial District.
The forum stated that it remains committed to protecting the interests of all its members who are operating in the political space across the 21 local government areas of Kogi State, stressing that it will defend such interests steadfastly regardless of the circumstances.
KPSF, however, emphasized the need for unity within the ruling All Progressives Congress, warning that actions capable of creating division within the party could weaken its strength and reduce its electoral fortunes in the state.
According to the forum, Senator Karimi has remained an outstanding and performing lawmaker whose numerous projects, programmes and interventions have helped alleviate the sufferings of many constituents across communities in Kogi West.
The group added that through various empowerment initiatives, community development projects and legislative interventions, the senator has continued to bring relief and renewed hope to many residents of the district.
KPSF further noted that the recent political tensions may not be unconnected to what it described as the rising political profile and growing influence of Senator Karimi, both within Kogi West and across the entire state.
The forum maintained that the senator’s humanitarian activities and grassroots engagements have earned him increasing support among citizens, making him a prominent political figure in the state.
It also stressed that many of the senator’s activities are geared towards mobilizing support for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
KPSF cautioned that internal conflicts within the party could undermine ongoing efforts to strengthen the APC ahead of future political contests, noting that unity among party members remains crucial for sustained progress.
Quoting a popular saying, the forum added that a house divided against itself cannot stand, urging party leaders and members to embrace dialogue, reconciliation and understanding in resolving political disagreements.
While appealing for calm among party members in Kogi West, especially those in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, the forum urged stakeholders to remain focused on the broader objective of promoting peace, stability and development within the party and the state.
KPSF assured that it will continue to monitor the situation closely while working with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the issues are resolved amicably in the interest of the party and the people of Kogi State.
The forum also reiterated its commitment to fostering cooperation among political actors and promoting a united front capable of advancing the collective aspirations of members of the ruling party in the state.
