The PDP Chairman in the state, Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo, made the call on Tuesday during a press conference at the party’s state secretariat in Lokoja.
Gambo said the appeal became necessary to ensure fairness and a level playing field for all political parties, especially the opposition.
He explained that the party had scheduled its first State Working Committee meeting for the day but was forced to reschedule it due to delays in notifying members, which affected attendance.
“Today was fixed for our first Working Committee meeting, but because messages to members were delayed, some could not be present. On that ground, we have decided to shift the meeting to Monday, 5th January, so that it can be held at a larger venue,” he said.
The PDP chairman also raised concerns over the worsening insecurity in the state, calling on the government and security agencies to take urgent steps to address the situation.
“We are ready to collaborate to bring insecurity to an end. Enough is enough. There must be security before any political party. Kogi people must be able to sleep with their two eyes closed,” Gambo said.
On the local government elections, he appealed to KOSIEC to extend the deadline for the sale of nomination forms, describing the current timetable as unfavourable.
“As the major opposition party in Kogi State and Nigeria, the current timeline appears designed to put us at a disadvantage. We will not accept that,” he added.
Gambo assured party members and supporters that the PDP was fully prepared to participate in the elections, noting that the party had previously governed both the state and the country.
