The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council, on Thursday held the grand finale of its 2025 Press Week in Lokoja, with a colourful ceremony that brought together top government officials, traditional rulers, politicians, media executives and other distinguished personalities.
The highlight of the occasion was a lecture delivered by Mr. Joel Topa, who spoke on the theme: “Kogi State Solid Minerals: How Media Can Drive Development.” He underscored the need for the media to champion accountability, attract investment, and promote sustainable exploration of the state’s abundant mineral resources.
During the ceremony, the NUJ honoured several dignitaries with merit awards in recognition of their contributions to societal development, support for press freedom, and service to humanity.
Dignitaries in attendance included, the Ohimege Igu of Koton-Karfe, Dr. Saidu Akawu Salihu, Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, Representative of the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdul, top government functionaries, members of the state legislature, captains of industry, traditional rulers, and leaders of civil society groups, among others.
Speaking at the event, the Kogi NUJ Chairman, Comrade Adamu Saidu Haruna, commended members of the union for their commitment to professional ethics and described the week-long celebration as a platform to reflect on the role of journalists in nation-building.
He noted that the awardees were carefully selected based on merit, stressing that the NUJ would continue to celebrate individuals and institutions that have contributed positively to the growth of the state and Nigeria at large.
The grand finale climaxed a series of activities held during the week, including a health walk, novelty football match, thanksgiving service, and public lectures.
