The Kogi State Correspondent of the New Telegraph Newspaper, Muhammad Bashir, on Saturday hosted an 8-day Fidau prayer in honour of his late mother, Ajara Abdullahi Ahmodu who died recently in Kaduna at the age of 81.
The solemn prayer session, held at the family compound in Karaworo Street, Lokoja, drew relatives, friends, colleagues, Islamic clerics, and community members, who gathered to offer supplications for the repose of the deceased’s soul.
The late matriarch was described as a devoted mother, community pillar, and a woman of strong faith who lived her life in service to God and humanity.
Her death in Kaduna last week was received with deep grief by family members and associates.
Delivering a sermon at the prayer, Alifa Arif Yabagi, one of the leading clerics urged the family to take solace in the fact that their mother lived a long and impactful life, adding that “raising responsible children who contribute positively to society is one of the greatest legacies any parent can leave behind.”
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council, led by its vice chairman, Ibrahim Obansa, was well represented at the prayer.
In his tribute, the NUJ vice chairman described the deceased as “a mother who nurtured and supported not only her children but also everyone around her.
“Bashir’s dedication to journalism reflects the upbringing and values she instilled.”
Colleagues of the correspondent from various media houses also paid glowing tributes.
One of them noted that “the discipline and integrity our colleague demonstrates in his work are no doubt a reflection of the moral foundation laid by his late mother.”
Community leaders and friends who attended equally praised the deceased for her humility and generosity.
According to one elder, “Mama Ajara was always willing to share, advise, and pray for others. She was a mother to many, not just her biological children.”
In his remarks, the New Telegraph newspaper correspondent expressed gratitude to dignitaries, colleagues, and well-wishers who came from far and near to identify with the family during their moment of grief, praying God to reward them abundantly.
The 8-day Fidau prayer featured Qur’anic recitations, sermons, and special prayers for the deceased and her family.
