The Kogi State Council of Ulama’u on Monday flagged off its annual Ramadan Lecture Series at the Lokoja Central Mosque, calling on Islamic preachers to use the holy month as a platform to promote peace, unity, and moral guidance.
The programme began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, followed by special prayers led by the Chief Imam of Lokoja, Sheikh Aminu Shaban, who prayed for sustained peace, stability, and development across Kogi State and Nigeria.
The Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi, who served as chairman of the occasion, was represented by the Waziri of Lokoja, Abdulraman Idris Baba’Ango.
In his goodwill message, he commended the council for maintaining the annual lecture series, describing it as a vital platform for spiritual growth and guidance.
He urged that religious teachings should be used to strengthen community unity, especially at a time when the nation requires collective efforts toward peaceful coexistence.
Speaking at the event, the Administrative Secretary of the Council, Alhaji Idris Baba’Ango, expressed gratitude to participants for their continued support of the council’s initiatives.
He specifically encouraged preachers delivering sermons during Ramadan to emphasize peace, tolerance, and mutual respect, noting that the pulpit should serve as a tool to promote harmony and discourage divisive narratives.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Grand Khadi, Justice AbdulKareem Aruwa; the Chairman of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Ambassador Usman Bello; Chairman of Kogi State KOSMOS, Alhaji Abdulgafar Abdulsalam; Honorable Justice Danladi Isa Yakubu; Sheikh Justice Nurudeen Yusuf Abdullahi; and Justice MM Bello.
Their presence underscored the importance of the lecture series in fostering spiritual growth and communal harmony.
According to the council, the Ramadan Lecture Series will continue throughout the fasting period, with various scholars addressing topics on faith, morality, and community development.
