The Executive Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, has dismissed rumours circulating about an alleged bandits’ invasion in parts of Lokoja, describing the reports as false, misleading, and the handiwork of mischief makers determined to cause unnecessary panic among residents.

In a statement issued to newsmen on Thursday, Comrade Abdullahi said the council had received several reports suggesting attacks in Felele, Crusher, and other locations within the state capital. He stated that thorough checks carried out by security agencies confirmed that the claims were baseless and purely fabricated to create tension.

He urged residents to remain calm and go about their legitimate activities without fear, stressing that perpetrators of such rumours only aim to destabilize the peace currently enjoyed in Lokoja.

According to him, Lokoja today is more peaceful and secure than ever before, owing to the commitment of the administration to strengthening local security architecture and partnering with relevant agencies to protect lives and property.

He revealed that security patrols and surveillance operations have been intensified across the local government, assuring that personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilante groups are fully alert and working in synergy to maintain order.

The Chairman appealed to media organizations, bloggers, and social media handlers to verify information before publication, noting that security matters should not be sensationalized or used as political tools.

Comrade Abdullahi warned those behind the circulation of fake news to desist or be ready to face the full weight of the law, describing misinformation as a threat to public safety and communal harmony.

He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to protecting citizens, promising that his administration will continue to prioritize peace and security as the foundation for development and economic growth in Lokoja.
