The Kogi State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed nominees for appointment into the Kogi State Pension Commission and the Kogi State Bureau of Public Procurement, reinforcing its constitutional mandate of oversight and legislative scrutiny.
During plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, the House approved the nomination of Hajiya Mariam Ozioma Abedo as Director-General of the Kogi State Pension Commission.
The Assembly also confirmed the following as Commissioners of the Kogi State Pension Commission:
Umar Sulaiman Isah
Sulaiman Aliyu Yakubu
Ibrahim Baba Muhammad
Usman Lukman Adebayo
Lawmakers noted that the Pension Commission plays a critical role in ensuring the effective administration and management of pension matters in the state, particularly in safeguarding the welfare of retirees and public servants.
They stressed that the Commission’s efficiency directly impacts the livelihoods of thousands of pensioners across Kogi State.
For the Kogi State Bureau of Public Procurement, the House confirmed Hon. Justice Sunday Oneiza (Rtd.) as Chairman, and Ehimony Sunday Joshua as Director-General.
The Bureau is expected to strengthen due process, transparency, and accountability in public procurement across ministries, departments, and agencies, promoting fair competition and value for public funds.
The confirmations followed the presentation, consideration, and adoption of the relevant committee reports after the screening exercise, during which nominees were assessed based on their qualifications, experience, and competence.
Lawmakers commended the nominees for their professional track records and urged them to bring innovation and efficiency to their respective offices.
Congratulating the appointees, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, described their confirmation as a call to greater responsibility. He urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by ensuring strict adherence to the law, professionalism, and commitment to service delivery.
The Speaker further emphasized the importance of integrity in the management of pension funds and procurement processes, noting that both institutions are vital to good governance and public trust.
“Our people deserve institutions that operate transparently and efficiently,” he said, “and these appointments are crucial to achieving that goal.”
Members of the Assembly reiterated their commitment to supporting policies and initiatives that enhance institutional efficiency, promote sustainable development, and improve the welfare of Kogi State residents.
They also expressed optimism that the newly confirmed officials would bring a renewed focus on accountability, service delivery, and strategic planning in their respective offices.
Shortly after the screening, Hajiya Mariam Ozioma Abedo and Umar Sulaiman Isah expressed sincere gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for considering and nominating them.
They pledged to honor the trust placed in them by executing their duties with diligence, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to enhancing the welfare of pensioners and public servants across the state.
